What is the first thing that you do in the morning? We all brush, cleanse and wash our face. If you stay in dry winter weathers, we are sure you struggle with dry skin, especially after using a face wash. Using sulphate-based face washes can really strip your skin off its natural oils and make it very dry and stretchy. Dry skin is more prone to wrinkles in the future so why not change the face wash and use something that would moisturise and cause no drying? Did you know that you can make your very own home-made soap free facial cleanser that not only cleanses but also moisturises your face at the same time and nourishes? Here we have a very simple recipe for a soap-free facial cleanser –

Gram Flour

Using gram flour to cleanse your skin is a popular trick in ayurveda. It has cleansing properties and it also helps nourish your skin. Helps wash off excess sebum without drying out your skin.

Licorice Powder

Helps brighten, gently exfoliate, nourish and soften skin. Evens out skin tone, fights acne and dark spots. A great ingredient for pigmented skin or skin that has bumps and clogged pores.

METHOD

Things You Need:

  • 1/2 cup raw organic honey
  • 1 tbsp wild turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup gram flour
  • 1/4 cup licorice powder
  • Essential oils (optional)

Directions:

There are two ways to make this soap free facial cleanser, one way is to mix the dry powders and keep it in your bathroom and mix it with honey just before using. Another way is to make a concoction or paste by mixing all the ingredients together and then using it. The latter has a lesser shelf life. Mix together honey, turmeric powder, licorice powder powder and gram flour and store it in dry form or mix it with honey and store it in a pump bottle or a usable jar. You can also add in essential oils of your choice. If you have acne prone skin, use tea tree and/or a peppermint essential oil. For normal skin type or skin that is dry, add in few drops of rose hip or jojoba oil.

To use this, take a small quantity and massage it on wet skin for a few minutes. You can also let it sit for a few more minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Use it in the morning and before bedtime. Follow up with your regular skincare routine.

A pro tip – you can also use this as a soap-free body wash.

NOTE

  • Use organic ingredients for best results.
  • Patch test before trying out any new ingredient in your skincare routine.
  • If you are allergic to any of the ingredients mentioned, skip using that particular ingredient.
  • Please note that this face wash is not going to foam like commercial face washes because obviously it is soap- free and does not contain sulphates.
