I love using charcoal in my skincare routine sometimes because it works as a detoxing ingredient plus it also has great absorbing properties that keeps your skin clear. You will find a lot of charcoal-based face washes or skin care products in the market but did you know that if you have activated charcoal powder, you can easily make your own charcoal face wash at home? Here I have a very simple recipe for DIY charcoal face wash that is great for all skin types and works exceptionally well for problematic skin –

DIY CHARCOAL FACE WASH

BENEFITS:

Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal has detoxing properties that helps unclog pores, fight acne and detox your skin. It keeps your skin acne free and clear and has great cleansing properties. It also has a very gentle exfoliating effect that helps buff away dead skin cells gradually to reveal more even toned skin.

Liquid Castile Soap

Liquid castile soap is a great alternative to regular soap base because it is all natural and does not dry out your skin. Also contains oils that help melt away make up and dirt and keep your skin clear and soft. It is available in a lot of different variants and fragrances, choose what best suits your skin type.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oil has a refreshing effect on the skin which makes it a great addition to the recipe. It also has anti-inflammatory, skin calming and antimicrobial benefits that keeps your skin rejuvenated, helps fight acne and breakouts. Keeps your skin clear and flawless. Feel free to use any essential oil that works best for your skin type.

RECIPE FOR CHARCOAL FACE WASH:

Things you need-

  • ½ cup liquid castile soap
  • 1 tablespoon activated charcoal
  • 10 drops peppermint essential oil
  • Filtered water/rose water (optional)

Directions-

To make this face wash, you need to add liquid castile soap in a bowl and add in rosewater or filter water. You can skip water or filtered water if you like your face wash to be a little thicker. Stir and add in charcoal powder. Mix it well and then add in peppermint essential oil. Make sure that the final product is lump free and that the charcoal is evenly distributed in the soap solution or you will end up with a black mess every-time you wash your face! Transfer this into a pump bottle and use it as a regular face wash.

NOTE-

  • Always patch test beforehand to make sure you aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients used in the recipe.
  • Always use organic ingredients for best results.
