Rice

Rice contains about 75 to 80% of starch. Which is why, rice water is starchy water that remains after soaking or cooking rice. Rice contains many minerals and vitamins, they include:

  • Anti-oxidants
  • Amino acids
  • Minerals like potassium, iodine, magnesium, zinc, selenium, manganese and a lot of fiber
  • B vitamins
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin C

Beside rice being trendy when it comes to skincare and hair care regimens, it isn’t new. As it dates us back to the ancient times when women used to flaunt their tresses that used to drape floor because their secret was rice water and its hair masks. Rice has many benefits that include – helps remove dandruff, detangles your hair, stimulate hair growth, strengthens the hair follicles, gives vitality and improves their appearance.

Coconut milk

Coconut milk is rich in lauric acid, these high/medium fatty acids are able to penetrate easily through hair shafts thus strengthening the hair cuticles. This milk is rich in protein that potentially makes your hair since our hair is made of keratins. They are high in vitamin C, E, B-1, B-3, B-5 and B-6 micronutrients that makes your hair string, healthy and moisturized. Many studies tell that coconut milk may slow down rate of hair loss. The natural fatty acid profile of coconut milk has extreme moisturizing effects which in turn can restore dry and flaky scalp. It is also very beneficial in conditioning the scalp and prevents dandruff due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil has several benefits and is used in almost all the hair DIYs. When used as a leave-in treatment it helps seal moisture content in hair. Helps treating dry and flaky scalp, prevents split ends and hair breakage. Coconut oil is the best in getting frizz-free hair and the fatty acids in coconut oil have anti-microbial properties that help in treating scalp from dandruff and microorganisms. And mainly helps in promoting hair growth.

Method

Things you need:

  • Cooked rice – 1/3 cup
  • Coconut milk – 1/2 cup
  • Coconut oil – 1/4 cup

Directions:

To prepare this cooked hair mask recipe, take a blender and add 1/3 cup of cooked rice, 1/2 cup of coconut milk and 1/4 cup of coconut oil. Blend it to smooth paste. Make sure to adjust coconut milk and coconut oil as per your choice of consistency for the paste.

Usage

On the day of your head bath, take some amount of this paste and apply it all over your damp hair and scalp. Tie a bun and cover it with shower cap. Leave the mask on the hair for 2 to 3 hours. If you have a frizz hair, apply the mask on the wet hair else add in more of the liquid ingredients to get the smooth consistency which makes it easy and effective.

  • Patch test is mandatory before you use this recipe and check if it works for your hair.
  • Use the fresh batch whenever you are applying.
  • Discard the usage in case you feel any scalp irritation. 
  • Do not expect instant results.
  • Use organic products/ ingredients for best results and to maintain the scalp health.
  • Can adjust the quantity required as per the hair length.
  • Apply your regular hair oil after 1 or 2 days and follow up with the hair wash and conditioner.
  • Hair growth doesn’t happen overnight. Hence maintain consistency to see the best results.
  • Use the hair masks twice a week for best results.
