Acne prone skin needs extra care since it is prone to breakouts and is likely caused due to many reasons like oiling your hair, stress, food habits, lack of sleep, sleeping on dirty pillow cases, dandruff, talking over dirty mobile screens, hormonal imbalance, change in diet, lack of water intake etc. As I had already mentioned in my previous articles, knowing the reason for your acne and taking care should be as per the reason itself which makes it very easy for you to deal with it. Today we are sharing a super effective recipe of Calamine Serum for acne prone skin –

Benefits of the ingredients used in the calamine serum for acne prone skin
Calamine powder
You can easily get this from Amazon and other online shopping stores. It is a light pink powder that is made from zinc oxide and a dash of iron oxide with rusty-red pigment/tint in it. The oxide in this powder is very helpful in soothing irritated and acne prone skin due its anti-septic properties. As we know, zinc oxide is very effective in protecting the skin from UV rays. It mattifies, soothes and cleanses an irritated and acne prone skin. Additionally it keeps skin very well hydrated, improves the texture of the skin, lighten dark spots and it also heals skin from wrinkles due its anti-aging properties.
Witch hazel
Nowadays you can find witch hazel in its pure form in your nearest local drugstore or can easily get them from online shopping stores which resemble a bottle of rubbing alcohol. Witch hazel is something that is a must- use product for acne prone skin people.
But have to use this in a very limited quantity as some sources say that is unsafe to use it directly on the face. The most common uses of witch hazel are treating sunburn, ease irritation, injury and inflammation due to its anti-inflammatory properties, gallic acid and tannins. It helps in fighting acne as it kills acne causing bacteria from infecting your skin and is also great for fungal acnes as well.
Rose water
Rose water gives soothing effect for the skin and acts as a toner as well. Keeps skin hydrated which is the important thing one can get. Rose water is also helpful in unclogging pores, removing excess oil from the skin and also great natural toner to restore the skin’s pH level which in turn helps in treating acne and pampers skin.
Aloe vera gel
Use the commercial aloe vera gel as it easily gets emulsified with the other ingredients used in the serum. Use fragrance-free and color-free aloe vera gel. Aloe vera gel is very beneficial for your skin, especially when you are deeply tanned, have breakouts, itchiness, redness, acne scars etc. When applied, it acts like a barrier or the protecting layer on the skin, reducing wrinkles and thereby fighting aging. It reduces acne and helps replenish natural moisture of the skin. Aloe vera is the main skincare ingredient in helping getting the clear skin very easily and also suits all the skin types.
Method
Things you need:
- 2 tsps of calamine powder
- 2 tbsps of witch hazel
- 3 tbsps of rose water ( can adjust as per the serum consistency)
- 2 tbsps of aloe vera gel
Directions:
To prepare this serum, take a small mixing bowl and pour 2 tsps of calamine powder, 2 tbsps of witch hazel, 3 tbsps of rose water or can adjust the quantity as per the serum consistency and 2 tbsps of commercial aloe vera gel. Give a good mix and store it in a small pump bottle. Use it as serum in the night and in the morning. Shelf life of the serum depends on the shelf life of the individual ingredients.

- Make sure to perform patch test before you use this serum
- Know that to what product you’re allergic to.
- Make sure you are compatible in applying the serum during night time since many people may suffer from cold due to aloe vera gel when applied for longer time.
- Avoid sensitive areas in case you feel any skin irritation.
- Use organic products/ ingredients for best results and to maintain the skin health.
