If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know that I was on a no-shampoo journey for 7 to 8 long years! It is only a year back that I started using natural shampoos (SLS-free) after coloring my hair. If you are in a lookout for natural shampoos you are at the right place! You can totally use SLS – free shampoos that are commercially available but if you really want to make your own shampoo and customize it the way you want, you can totally do that. Below are eight natural shampoos that you might want to try –
8 NATURAL SHAMPOO RECIPES
Green Tea Shampoo
To make this, you first need to brew one cup of strong green tea. Keep the green tea aside and let it cool down. Take a jar and add in half cup of liquid castile soap and half cup of strong green tea that we just made. Add in few drops of your favorite essential oil and one or two capsules of vitamin E oil. Stir gently until everything mixes well and pour this into an easy to use pump bottle. Use this once or twice a week. Great for oily scalp and helps in detoxing as well.
Coconut Milk Shampoo
If you have dry scalp and hair, you can use this coconut milk shampoo. It nourishes and moisturizes. To make this, take a jar and add in half cup of liquid castile soap and half cup of full fat coconut milk. Add in few drops of lavender essential oil and two teaspoons of raw organic honey. Mix it gently until well combined and transfer to a pump bottle. Use it regularly.
Rose Shampoo
This shampoo is great for all hair types and it nourishes your scalp and as a beautiful shine to your hair. To make it, you need half cup of liquid castile soap, 1/3 cup of rose water and 10 drops of rose essential oil. Combine these three ingredients together in a jar and transfer this to a pump bottle. Use it as a regular shampoo.

Apple Cider Shampoo
Apple cider vinegar shampoo is great for detoxing and to balance your scalp pH and fight dandruff. Also helps boost hair growth and reduce hair fall. To make this, you need half cup of liquid gas still soap 1/4 cup of mother apple cider vinegar and 1/3 cup of rose water. I am in few drops of your favorite essential oil and stir well. Transfer this to a pump bottle and use it as a regular shampoo.
Aloe Shampoo
Aloe shampoo is great for all hair types and it deeply hydrates and nourishes your scalp. Also helps fight dandruff and as a beautiful shine to your hair. To make this shampoo, you need a half cup of liquid castile soap, 1/3 cup of commercial aloe vera gel and a teaspoon of vitamin A oil. Add in few drops of your favorite essential oil if you like. Stir gently until well combined and transfer this to an easy-to-use pump bottle. Use it like a regular shampoo.
Dandruff shampoo
If you have dandruff caused due to fungus, try this recipe out. Add half cup of liquid castile soap to a jar along with 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, 10 drops of tea tree essential oil and 1/3 cup of rose water. Stir it gently and transfer to a pump bottle. Use it as and when required.
Ayurvedic Shampoo
If you are on a completely no shampoo journey and don’t even want to use liquid castile soap, you can use this shampoo instead. For this, you need handful of soap nuts and shikakai pods. Soak these in 2 cups of water overnight and cook it on medium flame for 10 mins. Mash everything together and squeeze out all the liquid using a muslin cloth after it cools down completely. Use this to wash your hair. Make fresh and use, do not store this.
Clay Shampoo
If you have oily and greasy scalp, you can use this one. It helps detox and remove all the product buildup including excess sebum. All you need to do is add 2 tablespoons of Bentonite clay to 1/3 cup of liquid castile soap or any mild soap that you have. Use this atleast once every 2 weeks. Make sure to use a very moisturizing hair mask because this can make your hair drier.
