We all know the importance of face and hair masking. This is an extra step to give your hair and skin that much-needed tender loving care. Masking is a great way to maintain your skin and hair health and it is one of my favorite beauty or self-care tasks too! I use a face mask and a hair mask very frequently , on weekly basis to maintain my skin and hair health. I often get  asked what I use for my hip length hair and how do I maintain it so well, the answer is really simple! I use hair mask on weekly basis! There is a hair mask recipe for every have problem and below are some of my favorite DIY hair masks-

10 DIY HAIR MASKS –

DANDRUFF

Aloe vera has hydrating, moisturizing and anti microbial effects that help combat dandruff caused due to both dry weather and fungal growth. To make this hair mask, simply blend together one cup of fresh aloe vera gel and 2 to 3 tablespoons of coconut oil. Blend until it is well emulsified and use it as an overnight or 2 to 3 hour hair mask.

HAIR FALL

Rosemary and ginger both have hair follicle strengthening properties and they also nourish the scalp and keep your hair in great condition. To make this hair mask, add a medium sized ginger and handful of dried rosemary leaves into a blender along with some water and blend it. Strain out the juice and spread on your scalp and hair. Shampoo it off after 3 to 4 hours. Can also be used as an overnight hair mask.

ITCHY SCALP

Itchy scalp can be quite irritating and frequent itching can also give you a sore scalp. To make a hair mask to stop itching, mix together half cup of rolled oats and one cup of water. Blend it and extract oat milk. Add a few drops of peppermint oil and pour this onto your hair and scalp. Massage and let it sit for 2 to 3 hours before you use a shampoo.

DRY HAIR

If you have dry scalp and hair, your hair can look really dull and lack shine as well. Simply mix together one medium sized banana and 3 to 4 tablespoons of honey and blend it together really nicely. Apply this mixture on your scalp and hair and let it sit for 2 to 3 hours before you use a shampoo.

OILY HAIR

To make a hair mask for scalp that is oily and greasy, simply blend together handful of mint leaves with half cup of apple cider vinegar. Spray this this on your scalp and hair and let it sit for one hour before you use a shampoo.

FRIZZY HAIR

To make a hair mask for hair that is really frizzy and tough to manage, whip together one whole egg and 4 to 5 tablespoons of yogurt. Apply this mixture on your scalp and hair and let it work for 2 to 3 hours. Shampoo it off and let your hair air dry.

HAIR GROWTH

If your hair lacks growth , this hair mask can do wonders. Mix together half cup of aloe vera gel and handful of fresh curry leaves. Once it is well mixed and lump free, apply it on your scalp and hair and let it sit for 2-3 hours before you use a shampoo. Best used as an overnight hair treatment.

ROUGH HAIR

For rough hair, you can use non-veg mayonnaise and fresh cream mixed together in equal quantities. Apply on your scalp and hair concentrating on the hair length and let it sit for 2 to 3 hours before you use a shampoo.

SPLIT ENDS

Now, you cannot really reverse split ends but you can definitely use a hair mask to prevent it. All you have to do is mix together equal quantities of coconut oil and castor oil and warm it up. Massage this warm oil mixture onto your scalp and hair concentrating on the hair ends and let it sit overnight before you use a shampoo.

COLORED HAIR

If you have bleached or color treated hair, a mixture of aloe vera gel and castor oil can do wonders. Blend together half cup of fresh aloe vera gel and half cup of castor oil. Once it is homogeneous, apply this liberally on your scalp and hair and massage for a few minutes. Tie a top knot and let this work overnight. Use shampoo the next morning.

Note-

  • Patch test beforehand to make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients used.
  • Remedies or products do not show instant results, you have to stick to a routine for a longer period to see any effect.
  • Refrain from using excessive hair styling tools and products to keep your hair in good condition.
