Winters are finally here and it is my favorite time of the year! It’s the holiday season and everything seems very Christmas-like. With winter, also comes a number of beauty problems due to dry weather like chapped lips, dry skin, rough hair etc. Here I have compiled my favorite top 10 winter beauty tips to maintain your skin and hair and keep it healthy-

1. Chapped Lips
Winter dry weather can leave your lips super dry and chapped. You can apply ghee or clarified butter directly onto your lips. Alternatively, you can also make your own ghee lip balm! Add some beeswax to clarified butter and microwave it. Transfer it to an easy-to-use jar and let it set. Use it as a regular lip balm.
2. Dry Skin
Dry and flaky skin are common winter beauty issues. You can use home-made moisturizer made from aloe gel, shea butter and jojoba oil. Melt and mix these ingredients together and whip until you get a fluffy mixture. Use it as a moisturizer for your face and body.
3. Rough Hair
Winter weather can make your hair dry, rough and very frizzy. You can use whipped cream directly as a 30 minute hair mask. Also try using coconut milk or coconut cream as a hair mask. Another great way to instantly moisturize your hair is too apply few drops of rose essential oil on your towel dried hair after hair wash.
4. Cracked feet
Dry and cracked feet are common winter beauty problems. You can apply shea butter directly on your feet, massage and wear socks before bedtime. Alternatively, you can also apply a blend of coconut oil and olive oil in a similar manner before sleeping.
5. Rough and Dry Hands
I personally suffer from rough and dry hands during winters and I have to use hand cream at all times. I really love using this DIY hand butter that keeps my hands moisturized all day long and I don’t have to look out for a hand cream that frequently. Simply whip together equal quantities of shea butter, mango butter and few teaspoons of jojoba oil. Whip until you get a fluffy mixture and store it in an easy to use jar. Use it on your rough and dry hands after a shower.
6. Dandruff
Dry weather can make your scalp dry as well and cause it to flake making it look like dandruff. You will have to use a very moisturizing and hydrating hair mask. You can directly use aloe vera gel as a one hour hair mask or milk or coconut cream as a hair mask. Mayonnaise also works pretty well for dry scalp.
7. Wind-burning
Wind burning is nothing but inflammation and dryness caused due to prolonged exposure to winds. This can leave your skin chapped and raw. You can use this DIY butter before heading out and also before bedtime to soothe sun burnt skin and also to prevent it. To make this DIY butter, simply add 2 to 3 teaspoons of commercial aloe vera gel add few drops of rosemary oil to 1/3 cup of shea butter. Whip it well and store it in an airtight jar. Use it as and when required.
8. Sallow Complexion
Dry winter weather can make your skin dull, dry, darker and lifeless. This Is mainly due to accumulation of dead skin layer. A creamy face and body scrub can help solve this problem. In a bowl, add 1/3 cup of fine sugar, 2 tablespoons of shea butter and two teaspoons of coconut oil. Whip it well together and use it as a face and body scrub before a shower. Do not forget to follow up with your favorite face wash and body wash.
9. Red Cheeks and Nose
In dry winters, skin can get irritated and red especially if you have sensitive skin. You can use aloe vera gel as a moisturizer to get rid of the inflammation. Add in few drops of peppermint essential oil for added benefits.
10. Winter Itch
Dry weather can cause micro tears in the skin causing it to flake and can also make your skin severely itchy and dry. You can use a very moisturizing butter after a shower to help with that winter itch. To make this butter, add a teaspoon of turmeric and few drops of peppermint essential oil to 1/3 cup of soft shea butter. Add in few teaspoons of rosehip oil and whip until it is fluffy. Use it as a face and body butter or on areas where you have the winter itch.
