Maintaining pH is essential for your hair. If your pH is unbalanced, it is problem as it is the root cause of so many issues including dryness, frizzy hair, scalp infections and so on. You might take care of your hair so well and still experience all sorts of issues. Do you know why? The problem might be your shampoo too. Your scalp should have a balanced pH for it to prevent from infections and also for the healthy growth of hair. Here we have a natural pH Balanced Shampoo recipe!
Using a pH balanced shampoo will help you manage frizz, dryness and will nourish your hair without stripping away too much oil. Normally the pH in our scalp ranges between 4-7 which is slightly acidic. Having this pH level will help the scalp from getting any bacterial infections. So, it is a must that you should opt for pH balanced shampoo. I know you think that we’re going to recommend something from the market. But no, we’re going to make it at home without using castile soap which is extremely alkaline (pH level 10-11). Of course alkalinity can soften the hair but using a shampoo with that level of ph can be a bit shocking to your scalp. We don’t want that. Instead we’re going to neutralize the pH level for our scalp for it to be healthy.
pH BALANCED SHAMPOO RECIPE FOR HEALTHY HAIR
Benefits of the ingredients used in pH balanced shampoo:
RAW HONEY:
Raw honey has the acidic level ranging from 3.4-6.1. It is said that honey acts as both humectants and emollient which will help soften the hair and also moisturize the hair. Honey has anti-bacterial qualities so it helps in preventing any scalp infections. It makes the hair strong and lustrous. It naturally cleanses your hair and also acts as a conditioner. It also has antioxidants which will help in fighting the free radicals.
COCONUT MILK:
Coconut milk has pH level ranging from 6.0-7.0. It is extremely moisturizing. It has high amount of Lauric acid. One should know that lauric acid protects the root of the hair. It has Vitamin A, C and E which provides nourishment to the hair and also protects your hair from getting damaged. They also reduce breakage. Coconut milk also slows down greying of hair. It also prevents hair fall and promotes healthy hair growth.
SWEET ALMOND OIL:
The pH level of sweet almond oil ranges from 4.5-5.0. Sweet almond oil contains Vitamin A and Vitamin E. It is enriched with biotin which is essential for the growth of long and lustrous hair. Using sweet almond oil can strengthen your hair and prevent your hair from dandruff. It also protects your hair from sun damage and greatly aid in reducing split ends.
METHOD:
Things you need:
- Raw Honey – 2 tablespoons
- Coconut Milk – 1 cup
- Sweet Almond Oil – 1 tablespoon
Directions:
To make the pH balanced shampoo, take 1 cup coconut milk in a bowl and add 2 tablespoons of raw honey to it. Then add 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil and mix everything together. You can also use 1 tablespoon of commercial aloe vera gel to the mixture, if you are struggling with extreme dandruff. Our pH balanced shampoo is ready to use.
Usage:
Use this on scalp as you would normally use your shampoo. But keep in mind that we have not used castile soap to the mixture. So, this shampoo will not lather but will greatly cleanse your scalp and provide nourishment to the hair. Use this shampoo twice a week to get better results.
NOTE:
- Make sure to perform a patch test before using the shampoo to avoid any allergic reactions.
- Make fresh batch of shampoo every time.
- Adding aloe gel to the shampoo is completely optional.
- Be consistent and be patient.
- Do not use this shampoo if you have oiled your hair.
- Your scalp may go through a transition phase which can last for a few months. Hair takes time to adjust to the no-poo method.
