It becomes very necessary to take a proper care for dry, frizzled and rough hair like be it oiling, shampooing and conditioning if it is really good to go. Choosing the right shampoos and conditioners changes the hair game. The key is to understand your hair type and choose the right fundamental products like oils, tonics, serums, shampoos and conditioner. Preparing the conditioners at home would be preferred most of the times as it has innumerable benefits with “no harsh chemicals” formula. With that being told, let’s quickly check out the recipe for coconut oil hair conditioner which is simple and yet very effective. Let’s begin –

Benefits of the ingredients used in the coconut oil hair conditioner

Coconut oil

Coconut oil has several benefits and is used in almost all the hair DIYs. When used as a leave-in treatment it helps seal moisture content in hair. Helps treating dry and flaky scalp, prevents split ends and hair breakage. Coconut oil is the best in getting frizz-free hair and the fatty acids in coconut oil have anti-microbial properties that help in treating scalp from dandruff and microorganisms. And mainly helps in promoting hair growth.

Beeswax

Beeswax is used as the moisturizer for the face to apply during night (one that is meant for facial skin). There are many benefits for hair as well w.r.t beeswax. Beeswax is the great emulsifier that helps to bind with other ingredients used in this natural conditioner. It helps to moisturize the hair and scalp, may promote hair growth, soothes scalps and it is smoothens out the hair and straighten which is why it is used in most of the hair styling and other hair products.

Shea butter

Shea butter is a very moisturizing product for the skin and as well as hair. It is rich in high fatty acids thus making easy for it to penetrate deep which can prevent from hair breakage. It has vitamin A and E with essential fatty acid which is why it helps to reduce dryness and prevent split ends. Adds shine and reduces frizziness. Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce redness and scalp irritation. It has the role of conditioning in overall hair health by lubricating cuticles and strengthening hair follicles.  

Essential oils

It’s completely up to you in choosing the type of essential oil and that what suits you. Those who are obsessed with the aroma after conditioning the hair can opt for rose oil and it even adds shine to the hair. If you are facing hair fall and hair thinning issues, then rosemary essential oil becomes the savior. If you just want to keep it simple and are really happy with your hair as natural though can go for lavender essential oil that keeps your scalp healthy which adds shine as well. 

Method

Things you need:

  • 4 tablespoon of coconut oil 
  • 1 tablespoon of grated beeswax
  • 3 tablespoon of shea butter
  • Few drops of essential oil (as per your choice and needs)

Directions:

To prepare this coconut oil hair conditioner, take a small glass bowl and add 4 tablespoon of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of grated beeswax and 3 tablespoon of shea butter. Place this bowl on the stand kept inside the kadai that has boiling water inside or simply use a microwave. To be precise melt all the three ingredients by double boil method. Add your favorite essential oil to it according your preference and need. Give a good mix and set it aside for 15-20 mins and now whisk it to smooth to form a fluffy kind of mixture. This can be used as pre-shampoo mask and can be used as conditioner on your hair.  After the bath apply this as the conditioner and wash after 5mins.

Note

  • Patch test is mandatory before you use this conditioner and check if it works for your hair.
  • Use the freshly prepared conditioner as much as possible. 
  • Discard the usage in case you feel any scalp irritation. 
  • Do not expect instant results instead give it at least a week or month of time to see the results.
  • Use organic products/ ingredients for best results and to maintain the scalp health.
  • Can adjust the quantity required as per the hair length.
  • Concentrate on the hair ends rather than the scalp.
  • Do not use it as leave-in conditioner.
