Camphor is a great ingredient when it comes to skin care and hair care! Camphor is used for spiritual purposes in temples, little did we know it has great beauty benefits too. Did you know you could make and use camphor oil for skin and hair easily?

Camphor has wide variety of topical uses as it possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties that helps in killing lice, dandruff, prevents grey hair and strengthens the hair follicles. Camphor-enriched hair oil helps to strengthen the hair follicles and maintains the overall scalp health. It is also helpful in conditioning the hair making it soft, manageable and healthy. It is also known for providing the great moisturization to dry scalp.

Camphor is also used to treat various skin conditions. It is even observed that the lotions and creams containing camphor are used to relieve skin irritations, itchiness and helps in improving the overall appearance of skin. Studies also have shown that camphor has anti-aging properties thus helps in preventing wrinkles and other signs of aging. The anti-aging property of camphor is due to its ability to increase elastin and collagen production. Having said the benefits of camphor oil for hair and skin, let’s check out the camphor oil recipe. Let’s begin without much ado –

How to Make Camphor Oil for Skin and Hair

To make camphor oil, you need 1-2 tablespoons crushed or powdered camphor tablets and 1/2 cup coconut oil or jojoba oil. Add the powdered camphor to warm oil and mix well until it dissolves. Store it in a dropper bottle and use as and when required.

How to use camphor oil for hair?

1. For people with dry, weak or brittle hair strands, camphor oil mixed with other essential oils should serve as an excellent hair treatment. Do this twice a month with consistency to see positive results.

2. For hair growth, all you need to do is that just take a small mixing bowl and add 2 tablespoon of mustard oil and a teaspoon of camphor oil. Just warm this mixture using double boil method or microwave for good 5mins. Apply this mixture on the scalp to give a good massage. Follow up with the hair bun and wash your hair after 1 hour with a mild shampoo. Can do this twice a week for better results.

3. If you are looking for in preventing the head lice, all you need is just the camphor oil and coconut oil. Just take a small mixing bowl and add 3 tablespoon of coconut oil and a teaspoon of camphor oil. Apply this solution on your scalp and massage well to leave it overnight. In the next morning wash it off with a mild shampoo. This is the great treatment for preventing head lice as the camphor has potent smell which suffocates lice and hence kills them. 

4. If you want a shiny and lustrous hair, just mix 1 teaspoon of camphor oil mixed with curd and egg. Apply all over the scalp and wash it after 1 hour. Do this once a week for better results.

How to use camphor oil for skin?

1. Camphor oil is used in the treatment for pimples most of the times. For this, just mix 1 teaspoon of camphor oil with 1 cup of rosehip oil. Give it a very good mix and store it in an airtight container. Take a teaspoon of this oil blend and massage it on a clean face or you can also give it a spot treatment. Leave it on for 20 to 30mins and wash it off with lukewarm water. Can leave it overnight but it might cause excess sebum production.  Do this twice a week.

2. Heal your cracked heels with camphor – All you need to do for that is just take a tub of water that is partly filled and add 3 to 4 tbsps camphor oil (mixing 3 tablespoon of camphor oil to the tub of water should be fine too) and give it a good mix so that they dissolve completely. Soak your foot in this solution for about 20mins and rub your feet with pumice stone. This helps in scrubbing off the thick layer of dead skin away from the feet. 

3. Camphor is very beneficial in treating any kind of mild infection on hands and feet as well. This can be done by using just massaging the affected areas with commercial aloe vera gel mixed with camphor oil. Or simply rub creams or sprays or lotions that have camphor oil content in them. This is asked to do it just once in a day. Taking a doctor advice in this case is mandate. This remedy helps in relieving itching or burning sensations on the skin.
