If you have dry lips of if you are someone like me, you might be having a lip balm in your handbag and/or around you at all times. Our lips cannot produce sebum like our skin and hence it needs an external moisturizer to keep it soft and prevent chapping and dryness. If you have severely dry lips or if your lips tend to frequently peel, you need to use a lip balm at all times. Factors like specific medicines, frequent lip licking, using matte lipsticks on bare lips, dry weather etc. can make your lips really dry. 10 LIP BALM RECIPES
Vanilla Lip Balm
To make vanilla lip balm, all you need is 2 tablespoons of shea butter and very little quantity of bee wax. Microwave it to melt and add in few drops of vanilla essential oil. Pour it in a lip balm tube and let it set for 2 to 3 hours before you start using it.
Shea Lip Balm
Shea butter is great for severely dry and chapped lips. All you need to do is mix together 2 tablespoons of shea butter and 1 tablespoon of almond oil. Microwave it to melt and stir it gently. Pour it into a small tub or in a retractable lip balm tube and let it set for 1 to 2 hours before you start using it.
Cocoa Lip Balm
Cocoa butter also is great for severely dry lips. It moisturizes and keeps your lips super soft. All you have to do is melt 2 tablespoons of cocoa butter and add in few drops of your favorite essential oil. Also add in half a teaspoon of coconut oil and melt it all together in our microwave. Make sure that if you want to use essential oils, add it after microwaving. Stir and pour into a jar or a retractable empty lip tube and let it set for 1 to 2 hours before you start using it.
Green Tea Lip Balm
Macha green tea lip balm is great for your lips as it has detoxing effects and it also provides anti oxidants. All you have to do is melt 2 tablespoons of shea butter along with very little quantity of bee wax as per requirement and add in a teaspoon of matcha green tea powder. Mix it really well and pour it into a jar or retractable empty lip balm tube. Let it set for a few hours before you start using it.
Flavored Lip Balm
To make flavored lip balm, you need your favorite fruit extract or essence. Add a few drops of this extract or essence as a last step before pouring. Simply melt a tablespoon of shea butter and add in half to 1 teaspoon of jojoba oil, Melt it together and add in the flavoring. Store and pour in a jar or an empty lip balm tube and let it sit before you start using it.
Tinted Lip Balm
If you like using tinted lip balms, here is an all natural recipe for you. For a pink tint, you can use rose petal powder or beetroot powder. For a little brown shade, you can use cocoa powder or coffee powder. You can mix all these powders to make your custom shade. Simply mix together 2 tablespoons of shea butter with a tablespoon of jojoba or sweet almond oil. Melt in the microwave and add in a teaspoon or so of the powder to add color. Stir and pour in a jar or an empty lip balm tube and let it set before you start using it.
Turmeric Lip Balm
If you have pigmented lips, turmeric lip balm is something you should try. All you have to do is melt any butter of your choice, I would prefer avocado or shea butter in this recipe. Add in a teaspoon of sweet almond oil and melt it in a microwave. Add in a teaspoon of wild or white turmeric and mix it really well before you pour it in a jar or lip balm tube. After it sets, use it as a regular lip balm.
Aloe Lip Balm
To make this super hydrating and moisturizing lip balm, you need a tablespoon of commercial aloe vera gel, 2 tablespoons of shea butter and a teaspoon of bee wax. Melt shea butter and beeswax in a microwave and mix in commercial aloe vera gel. Mix it well until it is well emulsified and pour it in a jar or lip balm tube.
Cinnamon Lip Balm
Cinnamon is great for making your lips plump and soft. All you have to do is melt together 1 tablespoon of shea butter and 1 teaspoon of bee wax. Add in a teaspoon of sweet almond oil and a pinch of cinnamon powder. Mix it all together and pour it in a lip balm tube. Let it set and use it as you normally would.
