If you are a coffee fan or if you love coffee, you probably are well versed with the types of coffees. I personally I am a really big fan of espresso but I am not well versed or have enough knowledge about the tricky coffee names at Starbucks! Did you know that there are more than 20 different types of coffees? If you find them pretty confusing and want to know about it, below are some common types of coffees along with recipes on how to make them –
TYPES OF COFFEE
Cappuccino
Cappuccino is one of the most commonly consumed coffee variety especially during the breakfast time. It is a creamy coffee drink composed of espresso, steamed milk, formed milk and also sometimes mixed with a little chocolate on the top. Cappuccino is more of like an indulgence and comfort other than just the usual wake-me-up caffeine shot. To make a cappuccino, you simply need to mix one shot espresso with steamed milk and foam milk on the top. The quantity of milk depends on your choice, it is usually double the quantity of espresso. Add some chocolate sauce on top and enjoy.
Americano
Americano is America’s popular breakfast drink and it is nothing but diluted espresso. It has a high level of caffeine but it is not as strong. To make this, you need to mix together one shot of espresso with 2 to 3 cups of hot water. Americano is my favorite coffee of all times and because I am on a low-carb diet, I add white butter and coconut oil to it in the morning.
Espresso
Espresso is also called as short black and it is nothing but highly concentrated coffee extract or coffee ‘solution’. It is normally made in an espresso machine and it is best done that way. It gives an instant wake me up and is high in caffeine.
Macchiato
Macchiato is nothing but a mixture of espresso and steamed milk. Milk added is very less while espresso is comparatively more making this a little bitter milk coffee, to make it simple to understand. Macchiato is often mixed with flavoring syrups or sugar to make it sweeter. To make a macchiato, you simply need to mix together one shot of espresso and 2 tablespoons of steamed milk. If you like it sweet, add in sugar or any of your favorite flavoring syrups.
Mocha
Mocha is like an Indulgent coffee and somewhere in between a coffee and hot chocolate. It contains espresso, chocolate, steamed milk and topped with whipped cream. It is super rich and chocolatey in flavor and the espresso flavor is actually pretty less due to the chocolate. To make mocha, Mix together one shot of espresso, a few tablespoons of chocolate syrup or chocolate powder. Add in half cup of steamed milk or more if you like and top it with whipped cream or foam.
Latte
Latte is more like the home-made milk coffee that you usually make having very little espresso and more steamed milk and a sweeter of your choice. To make latte, simply mix together 2 to 3 tablespoons of espresso and half cup of steamed milk. Add in a sweetener of your choice and you’re done.
Irish Coffee
Irish coffee is also one of my favorite coffee types to have and it is often made with black coffee, whiskey and sugar and topped with cream. The one I have tried also had the Baileys Irish cream and it tasted wonderful. All you need to do is mix together a shot of espresso or 1/4 cup of black coffee with a tablespoon or so of whiskey and some sugar. Mix it well and top it with cream. If you like, add in the Baileys Irish cream for a wonderful flavor.
Flat White
Flat white is actually cappuccino without the chocolate or foam and simply an espresso drink with steamed milk. To make flat white, you need one shot of espresso and half cup of steamed milk. You can also add a centimeter or so of milk foam on the top.
