Getting a facial is like a routine for me and it is a great way to keep your skin in top condition. Did you know that your scalp, just like your facial skin also needs a facial once in a while? You might have never heard of scalp facial but some salons (quite rare though) do have this service and it is nothing but a nourishing facial for your scalp to boost hair growth and keep it healthy and dandruff free. Scalp facial consists of a few steps, all depending on the type of your hair and scalp. Be it any hair problem, a scalp facial can work amazing. Below is how you can do a scalp facial for hair growth and thickness depending on your hair and scalp type –

SCALP FACIAL: Hair Growth & Thickness

SCALP FACIAL STEPS-

Exfoliating

Exfoliating is a very crucial step in scalp facial. It ensures that all of the dead skin cells and excessive product buildup is removed. Now, depending on your scalp type whether it is oily or dry, this process can be customized.

DRY SCALP- If you have dry scalp, you can go for moisturizing scalp scrub. To make your own moisturizing scalp scrub, Simply mix together enough fine sugar or sea salt and banana or avocado pulp. Use this gritty paste to scrub your damp scalp.

OILY SCALP- If you have oily scalp, you can make a scrub with fine sea salt and enough coconut oil with three drops of tea tree and peppermint essential oil. Make sure that you are being very gentle with the exfoliation and do it for not more than 3 to 4 minutes.

NORMAL SCALP- For normal scalp that is not dry or oily, you can use buffing brush or a buffing scalp brush to gently get rid of dead skin cells.

Masking

Masking helps nourish the scalp and target specific hair and scalp concerns. This process is quite similar to how you use face masks.

DANDRUFF- If you have dandruff prone hair, you can mix together commercial or fresh aloe vera gel and some tea tree oil and use it as a 30 minute scalp mask.

HAIR FALL- If you have normal scalp but hair fall and other hair shedding related problems, you can add few drops of rosemary essential oil to aloe vera gel and then use it as a mask.

OILINESS- For scalp that is extremely oily and have product build up, go for clay based mask. Mix together kaolin clay with enough green tea or you can also use Bentonite clay. Use it as a 10 minute scalp and hair mask.

Cleansing

The next step is using a shampoo or a good scalp and hair cleanser. You can make your own shampoo by mixing together castile soap and few drops of your favorite essential oil along with few teaspoons of rose water. This shampoo will go well with all hair and scalp types. If you are looking out for a specific shampoo for certain hair problems like dry hair or frizzy hair, add in some sweet almond oil to add on to the moisturizing properties. Moisturizing

After a hair wash, it is really important to add moisture back to your hair. You can use any deep conditioning hair mask that you like but I would highly suggest you go for a natural conditioner like avocado pulp or non-veg mayonnaise. Only apply it generously on your hair strands and let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes before you rinse it off with cold water. For your scalp, you can mist some apple cider vinegar which is diluted and rinse it off after a few minutes. This will balance your scalp pH.

Nourishing

The last and final step is nourishing your hair and scalp both.

ALL HAIR TYPES- You can use a leave on treatment and I am highly suggest you go for either which hazel or rose water for all hair types. You can simply missed it on your scalp and hair and massage it, do not rinse it off and let your hair dry.

FRIZZY HAIR- If you have frizzy hair you can go over with argan oil or any hair serum that you like just on the hair strands.

ITCHY SCALP- If you have severe dandruff and itchy scalp, you can add few drops of tea tree and peppermint essential oil to rose water before spraying.
