People are usually quite sceptical about using oils in skincare but did you know that oils can literally nourish your skin and make it healthier? Even if you have combination or oily skin type, you need to use lightweight essential or carrier oils to balance the sebum production and also nourish your skin by targeting specific skin concerns. I absolutely love using essential oils and carrier oils in my skin care routine and I have combination skin type! These oils work great on my skin and even if you have dry skin, you absolutely must use oils in your skincare routine. The key is to use non-comedogenic oils especially if you have acne prone skin. Below is a list of oils for skin care and also multiple ways to use it –

Rosehip Oil

Rosehip oil is a good source of essential fatty acids and anti-oxidants that helps in cell regeneration. It also helps in reduction of acne marks and scarring and improves the overall skin texture. It has anti ageing properties that makes it a great oil even for mature skin types. Adds a beautiful glow and also keeps acne at bay. Rosehip oil can be used directly as a facial oil before bedtime or before make up if you have dry skin. Can be mixed with your night cream and moisturiser for added benefits.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a great skin nourisher and it has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It is comedogenic in nature so if you have acne prone skin or oily skin that gets clogged easily, refrain from using coconut oil as a leave on treatment. Contains essential fatty acids that actually helps moisturiser nourish your skin and also fight acne. You can use coconut oil to remove your make up and also for double cleansing. Can be used to massage your skin and boost circulation. If you have severely dry skin, you can use this directly as a skin oil and also on mild scratches, nicks and cuts to facilitate healing.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is quite known for its antimicrobial benefits and it is widely used for acne prone skin and dandruff. It has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that fights acne from the core and helps keep your skin clean and clear. Health unclog pores and prevent frequent breakouts. Add few drops of tea tree essential oil to your night cream or moisturiser and also into your facial oil. You can also add a few drops into your face masks. You can also make your very own antiacne facial mist by adding few drops of tea tree essential oil rose water and using it throughout the day.

Argan Oil

Argan oil helps effectively regulate and balance sebum production on the skin thanks to its anti-sebum effects. It also promotes smoother and softer skin and treats acne from the core. Contains essential fatty acids that nourishes and moisturises the skin and keeps it healthy and glowing. You can use Argan oil directly as a facial oil or mixed with rosehip oil. Add few drops into moisturiser, foundation and other skincare products.

Olive Oil

Olive oil contains natural antioxidants that prevents oxidation on the skin and also combats free radicals. Has anti-ageing benefits and prevents premature ageing. It also has a calming and anti-inflammatory effect which makes it a great ingredient to be used after sun exposure. Acts as a natural moisturiser and makes your skin so soft and supple. You can use olive oil as a massaging oil for your face and body and also as a moisturiser for dry skin. You can simply massage and blot of the excess oil with a cloth or paper towel.

Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is rich in vitamin A and E and also contains protein, lecithin, beta carotene and essential fatty acids. It helps moisturise your skin and also has a protecting nature that prevents your skin from UV damage. Helps improve the collagen production and keeps your skin elastic and soft. You can use avocado oil as face and body massage in oil or also as a pre-shower body oil. If you have any dry skin, use it as a moisturiser as well.

Turmeric Oil

Turmeric oil has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and brightening properties. It not only moisturises the skin but also helps even out skin tone, reduce tan and even out complexion. Makes your skin super soft and also has a healing effect. Keep your skin clear and free from acne and breakouts. You can add turmeric oil in your night cream or regular moisturiser. Also add a few drops in your facial oil, DIY face masks and face massaging oil.

Geranium Oil

Geranium essential oil has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and it works as an astringent too. Helps brighten, tighten and soften skin and helps remove the dead skin layer effectively. Also works as a soothing and a great anti bacterial topical and treatment for acne and can be used as a spot treatment for acne or inflamed skin. Mix it with a carrier oil and use it as a spot treatment or as a massaging oil.

Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil is a good source of vitamin A and omega 6 fatty acids. It is rich in anti-oxidants that combat free radicals and has anti-ageing benefits. Has anti-pigmentation effects as well and helps improve the symptoms of melasma. Soften skin and adds a beautiful glow. You can use grapeseed oil directly as a face oil or facial massaging oil. Add few drops of this to your regular moisturiser or night cream and also in your face masks.

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet almond oil has brightening benefits and I absolutely love using it for my pigmentation and dark circles. It contains omega-3 fatty acids that prevent premature ageing and also helps with sun damage. Contains zinc that helps in healing acne and acne scarring to a great extent. Helps improve skins overall texture and appearance and also events out skin tone. You can use sweet almond oil directly as a facial oil before bedtime and also under your eyes and on pigmented areas to lighten them.
