Summers are always a bummer for people who sweat excessively. They’re prone to acne. One should know that acne can occur on any part of our body and not just on the face. If you sweat excessively, acne occur. When there’s too much friction between your clothes and body, acne occur. If the pores are blocked, you’ll get acne. If you don’t exfoliate well, you’ll get acne. It occurs because we have pores all over our body and it’s not something to be afraid of.  But with proper care, it can be treated well. Here’s a recipe for post-shower spray to get rid of chest and back acne.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is being widely used in the cosmetic industry as it has the ability to reduce inflammation. It also offers great relief from skin irritation and most importantly this combats acne. Witch hazel is an astringent which reduces the excess sebum secretion and thereby reduces the formation acne to a greater extent. It is also effective in minimising pores. Apart from treating acne, this also provides relief to other skin conditions. Using witch hazel also helps in neutralising free radicals which breaks down our skin’s collagen. 

Green Tea

Green tea has a compound called Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) that helps in providing moisture to the skin and also hydrates the skin. This EGCG also reduces the production of sebum and thereby controls the formation of acne.  It also protects the skin from sun’s harmful UV rays and is also known to fight skin cancer. Green tea has anti-oxidants and anti-bacterial properties which rejuvenates the skin and gives protection against bacteria. Green tea, when applied, acts as a toner and minimises unclogged pores leaving a cooling effect on the skin. 

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has innumerable benefits when it comes to skin. It is an excellent choice if you wish to treat acne. It has anti-bacterial properties and anti-inflammatory properties which reduces inflammation. Tea tree oil is widely used in the beauty industry to reduce any odour and acne. Not only does this provides relief against acne but also other sorts of skin infections including rosacea.  It also soothes irritated skin, relieves itchy skin and also reduces dark spots. 

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil soothes the skin and also helps in reducing inflammation. It is effective in killing bacteria. It’s been used in the aromatherapy for its amazing soothing fragrance. It also has anti-microbial properties which helps in fighting acne. It helps people with dry skin. Lavender oil is non-comedogenic so this won’t clog the pores and also gives protection against free radicals. This also helps in diminishing acne scarring.

METHOD:

Things you need:

  • Witch Hazel – ½ cup
  • Green Tea – ¼ cup
  • Tea tree oil – 10 drops
  • Lavender Oil – few drops 

Directions:

To make the spray, take a bowl and add ½ cup witch hazel which can be bought from Amazon, and add ¼ cup green tea to it. Then add 10 drops of tea tree oil and few drops of lavender oil to the mixture. Give it a good stir and pour it in a spray bottle. Shake the bottle well before using the spray. After taking a shower, spray this on the acne area and let it dry completely before putting on clothes. Use this regularly to see best results.

NOTE:

  • Do a patch test before using the spray to avoid any allergic reactions.
  • If you’re sensitive to lavender oil, you can skip adding it.
  • The spray can be stored in the refrigerator for a week. Make fresh batches after every week.
  • Consistency is the key. So make sure to use this daily to see the visible difference.
  • Do not use witch hazel in excess as it might dry out your skin.
