Benefits of the ingredients used in this coconut shampoo 

Coconut milk

Coconut milk is rich in lauric acid, these high/medium fatty acids are able to penetrate easily through hair shafts thus strengthening the hair cuticles. It is rich in protein that potentially makes your hair since our hair is made of keratins. They are high in vitamin C, E, B-1, B-3, B-5 and B-6 micronutrients that makes your hair strong, healthy and moisturized. Many studies tell that coconut milk may slow down rate of hair loss. The natural fatty acid profile of coconut milk has extreme moisturizing effects which in turn can restore dry and flaky scalp. It is also very beneficial in conditioning the scalp and prevents dandruff due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil has several benefits and is used in almost all the hair DIYs. When used as a leave-in treatment it helps seal moisture content in hair. Helps treating dry and flaky scalp, prevents split ends and hair breakage. Coconut oil is the best in getting frizz-free hair and the fatty acids in coconut oil have anti-microbial properties that help in treating scalp from dandruff. Helps in promoting hair growth.

Liquid castile soap

Liquid castile soaps help in keeping the hair follicles healthy. They promote healthy hair growth rate. Liquid castile soaps helps in restoring the natural oils of the scalp thus helps in maintaining the healthy scalp. The best part about these liquid castile soaps is that like commercial shampoos, castile soap doesn’t contain fragrances, harsh detergents and chemicals that irritate scalp and skin.

Method

Things you need:

  • ½ cup of coconut milk 
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
  • 1 cup of liquid castile soap (or mild shampoo)
  • Few drops of peppermint essential oil (optional)

Directions:

To prepare this coconut shampoo, take a blender and add coconut pieces (1 no.) and little water. Blend it to smooth to extract 1 cup of coconut milk. Now transfer the coconut milk to the pump bottle and add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, 1 cup of liquid castile soap and few drops of peppermint essential oil. Give it a very good mix and use it like a regular shampoo. Store it in cool and dry place. If you stay in humid and hot weather conditions, you can prepare small batch of 1-time use shampoo every time before hair wash. The shelf life of bigger batch is 2-3 days at cool and dry place.
