Bentonite clay is a great detoxing ingredient and is used in skin care and hair care. It is nothing but volcanic ash and you get it easily commercially and in local stores. I absolutely love using bentonite clay mask for my acne prone skin and also to detox my scalp once in a while. It not only keeps your skin clear and glowing but it also boosts hair growth and keep your skin and hair healthy overall. Today I wanted to share different ways to use bentonite clay for both skin and hair along with its benefits –
BENTONITE CLAY FOR SKIN AND HAIR- BENEFITS AND USES
Basic ACV Clay Mask
A combination of bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar is great for acne prone skin. It helps clarify your skin and fight acne and keep it flawless. All you need to do is combine together enough Bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar and use it as a 10 minute face mask.
Facial Scrub
To make your own facial scrub, combine together 2 tablespoons of rice flour, 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay and 1 tablespoon of sea salt. Add in enough coconut oil or olive oil to make a paste and use it as a facial scrub. Follow up with the forming face wash. Not only does this help detox your skin and remove impurities and dead skin cells but it also keeps your skin clear and smooth.
Pore Tightening Mask
Combination of bentonite clay and egg white can help tighten pores to some extent and also make your skin feel and look a little tighter and refined. All you need to do is mix a teaspoon of bentonite clay and egg white from one egg. Whisk it and apply on your facial skin and neck. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes and wash it off. Your skin can feel a little drier and stretchy after using this mask so follow up with a good quality moisturizer.
Scalp Detoxing Scrub
This scalp detoxing scrub or exfoliator can help remove dandruff, product buildup, excess sebum and boost hair growth. All you need to do is mix together 2 tablespoons of bentonite clay, 2 tablespoons of fine sugar and enough coconut or olive oil to make a spreadable paste. Use this to massage your damp scalp and follow up with the shampoo.
Scalp Mask for Hair Fall
If you are experiencing hair fall, you might want to try this nourishing and detoxing scalp mask. All you need to do is mix equal quantities of kaolin clay and bentonite clay and add in enough rose water to make a paste. Apply this on your scalp only and use a shampoo after 10 minutes. This mask can make your hair and scalp dryer so follow up with a good hair mask or conditioner.
Clay Shampoo
If you have an oily scalp or if you have a lot of product buildup, use this shampoo once every two weeks. All you need to do is add 2 tablespoons of bentonite clay to 2 cups of liquid castile soap and few drops of lavender or the tree essential oil. Stir it gently and transfer it to a pump bottle. Use it as a regular shampoo and follow up with a moisturizing hair masks or conditioner.
Clay Face Wash
If you have oily skin or if your skin is prone to acne, this clay face wash can work really well. Just add 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay to 1/3 cup of liquid castile soap and add in 1/3 cup of rose water. Add in few drops of tea tree essential oil and stir it gently. Transfer it to an easy to use pump a bottle. Use it as a regular face wash.
Green Tea Clay Mask
To make a super nourishing and detoxing green tea clay mask, mix together 2 tablespoons of matcha green tea powder and 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay. Add in enough rose water to make a paste and apply it on your facial skin and neck. Wash it off after 10 minutes. Follow up with a moisturizing product.
Turmeric Clay Mask
If you have pigmentation, dark spots and acne, this turmeric face mask can work really well. All you need to do is add half teaspoon of wild turmeric to 2 tablespoons of bentonite clay and add in enough apple cider vinegar to make a paste. Apply this on your facial skin and neck and wash it off after 10 minutes. Follow up with a moisturizer.
NOTE-
- Bentonite clay when used on facial skin can cause a little redness and irritation for up to 20 to 30 minutes which is perfectly normal. If the irritation is severe, do not use.
- Bentonight clay can cause a tingling sensation when applied and this is perfectly normal. If you feel severe burning, wash it off and do not use it again. Consult a doctor if necessary.
- Always patch test beforehand to make sure you are not allergic to any ingredient.
