Ginger for Cough

Ginger has anti-inflammatory and healing properties that helps with cough and cold. You can mix fresh ginger juice with some honey and swallow it to soothe irritated nasal passages and throat. Alternatively, you can also have hot ginger tea.

Yogurt for Soft Skin

Yogurt contains lactic acid bacteria and it helps balance skin pH and also fight acne. Has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Moisturises and hydrates your skin and keeps it super soft. You can apply yoghurt directly onto your face and massage. Let it sit for 20 minutes before you rinse it off. You can also add in some honey for added benefits.

Mint for Acne

Mint has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that helps treat acne including inflamed cystic acne. You can make fresh mint leaf paste and use it as a mask for acne. Alternatively, use a Q-Tip to apply fresh mint juice as a spot treatment.

Turmeric for Cuts 

Turmeric has healing and anti-inflammatory properties that helps with cuts and nicks. My grandma used to directly apply turmeric powder on fresh cut. It will burn a bit but this is super effective.

Garlic for Ear Infection 

Garlic has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that helps with clearing an ear infection. This is effective in case of mild ear infections but if it is severe, consult a doctor. All you need to do is insert garlic into your ear and make sure it is not deep inside, just on the surface. Let it sit for 30 minutes.

Salt for Sore Throat

Gargling with salt water is a very common and age-old remedy to soothe a sore throat. Salt helps relieve the irritation and pain in the throat and also has antimicrobial properties. You can add a teaspoon of table salt or pink salt in one cup of warm water and gargle with it.

Soapnuts for Clean Hair

Soap nuts contain natural saponins that foam and help clean scalp and hair. It is a great alternative to shampoo and is used for many years, even when shampoo was not available commercially. Simply boil soap nuts and water and extract all the juice from soap nuts. Use this water to wash your hair.

Lemon for Nausea

Using lemon for nausea is a very popular remedy and is also used while travelling if you have motion sickness. Simply sniff a lemon if you feel like nauseating. For severe nausea, you can also lick the lemon or have a glass of lemonade.

Aloe for Soft Hair

Aloe has a great softening properties and is used for hair as well. Simply apply fresh aloe vera gel on scalp and hair length and let it sit for one hour before you use a shampoo.

Oats for Dry Skin

Oats have anti-inflammatory and skin softening properties and it is a great ingredient for dry skin. All you need to do is soak handful oats and enough milk and blend it to make a spreadable paste. Use it as a 30 minute face mask. Can also be used for dry skin on the body.
