People these days are opting for vegan food options which is definitely a good thing. Some choose to go vegan or avoid dairy because of their restricted diets while some choose to go vegan by choice considering the harm that is done to animals. Whatever be the reason, if you are in our lookout for vegan milk options I got you covered! I am not vegan but I really love using different milk substitutes more than the cow milk itself. Also, because I follow a Keto diet, I always opt for plant based milk. Here I have listed 10 vegan milk options for you to try –

10 VEGAN MILK OPTIONS

10 VEGAN MILK OPTIONS AND RECIPES

Almond Milk

Almond milk tastes quite close to regular cow milk and it is easily available. To make almond milk at home, you need to soak almonds in water for a few hours and then remove its skin (you can skip removing the skin). Toss them in a blender and blend it until smooth. Using a nut milk cloth, squeeze out all the milk. Use this as a regular milk in your recipes and drinks.

Banana Milk

Banana milk has a little sweet taste and makes a great ingredient and milk alternative in smoothies and shakes. To make banana milk, simply blend a few bananas with some water. Strain it out and your milk is ready.

Cashew Milk

Cashew milk is just like almond milk, the only difference is that it is comparatively high in carbohydrates and calories. To make cashew milk, simply soak cashews for a few hours in water and blend it all together until smooth. Using a muslin cloth or nut milk cloth, squeeze out all the milk and store it in a jar. Use it as a regular milk.

Using a muslin cloth, squeeze out all the milk and repeat the process using the same blended oats 2-3 times. Use it as a regular milk substitute.

Rice Milk

To make rice milk, you need to soak rice in water for 3 to 4 hours so that it becomes soft and is easy to blend. Blend the soaked rice with some water until it becomes smooth and squeeze out all the milk using nut cloth or muslin cloth. Store this in a jar and use it in place of regular milk.

Soy Milk

Soy milk is easily available commercially but you can also make it at home. To make this, simply soak soy beans in water overnight. Use yellow soy beans for best results. Drain the soy beans in the morning and remove the outer skin. Blend this with some water and squeeze out the milk using nut milk bag. Cook this milk on medium heat staring occasionally until it is reduced to half. Let it cool down completely and store it in a jar in the refrigerator. Use it in place of regular cow milk.

Walnut Milk

Walnut milk has a very rich flavor and it tastes even better than almond milk. To make walnut milk, soak walnuts in water for 3 to 4 hours and blend it all well until smooth. Using a nut milk bag, strain the blended mixture. Pour the walnut milk into a jar and store it in the refrigerator. Use it in place of dairy milk in shakes, smoothies and other recipes.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is easily available and is also quite cheap as compared to nut milk and other milk options. You can also make it at home. You need coconut meat and some water. Blend it together and using a nut milk bag, strain out the milk. Store this milk in the refrigerator and use it in your recipes, shakes, smoothies etc.

Pistachio Milk

To make this delicious pistachio milk, soak pistachios in some water over night. Blend it in the morning until smooth and squeeze out all the milk using nut milk bag. Store this milk in the refrigerator and use it in place of dairy milk in your recipes.

Hemp Milk

To make hemp milk, you need shelled hemp seeds and double the quantity of water. Blend these two ingredients together until smooth. You can see little bits of hemp seeds floating and that is completely okay. Strain out the milk using nut milk cloth and store it in a jar in refrigerator.

  • Add a pinch of sea salt and honey or dates while blending the milk if you want them to have some sweetness and flavor.
