What is an Ayurvedic tea?

Ayurvedic teas are also called as traditional herbal teas. There are many types of teas in ayurveda, each with its own benefits. There are three types of ayurvedic tea – vatha tea, pitha tea and kapha tea. These ayurvedic teas are known to provide health benefits, enhanced immunity, offer relaxation, detoxification, enhance health and endurance. 

Vatha teas are likely to include herbs like fennel seeds, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and licorice.

Pitha teas include herbs like roses, licorice, fennel seeds, cardamom and ginger.

Kapha teas are likely to add herbs like cloves, black pepper, cardamom, licorice, ginger and cinnamon.

Ayurveda Tea Recipes

1. Ayurvedic seed tea – Body detox herbal drink

This is one of the easiest Ayurveda tea recipes! To prepare this tea, take a pan and add 2 cups of water. Bring it to boil and add 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds, 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds and half teaspoon of cumin seeds. Let it boil for 10 minutes. Strain it and serve hot.

 2. Hibiscus tea – A golden health drink option

To prepare this Ayurveda tea, take 2 cups of water and add 2 dried hibiscus flower petals (thoroughly washed and dried). Let it boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Strain it and add raw honey and some lemon juice for taste. Can have this tea once or twice a day. Seems to taste little tart but is the best when served hot. You can also add some spices like cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg powder to improve the taste.

3. Ayurvedic kadha – immunity-boosting drink

Take a pan and add 1 teaspoon of cardamom powder, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder, half an inch of dried ginger, few black pepper corns to a 3 cups of water. Boil this until it becomes a 1 cup solution, strain and add honey as per taste.

4. Tulsi tea or Basil tea – prevents respiratory disorders

To prepare this stress-bursting Ayurveda tea, take a pan and add 4 cups of water and 4 teaspoon of tulsi leaves, 2 teaspoon of lemon grass, 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds, 2 to 3 star anise and half an inch of dried ginger. Infuse all these ingredients for 15 minutes and then boil it for 10 minutes. Strain it and serve hot. Can add sweeteners as per your choice.

5. Turmeric tea – Relieves pain and inflammation 

Take a pan and add 2 cups of water and add half an inch of dried ginger (can add freshly grated ginger), ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon powder, ¼ teaspoon of black pepper powder, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Boil it for 5 to 10 minutes and strain it. Can add rose petals, chamomile and lavender for floral taste. Add honey or stevia as per taste and if you want a tangy taste squeeze in some lemon juice.

6. Fenugreek tea – improves digestive cycle and prevents stomach disorders

Add a cup of water to pan and allow it to boil. Now add tea leaves and some fenugreek seeds. Let it brew for 10 minutes and strain it. Can sweeten with honey or maple or stevia.

7. Pitha tea – Metabolism, good digestion and energy production

To prepare this tea, add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds and cilantro. Make sure to add them all in equal quantities. Here we have used half teaspoon measurement for 2 cups of water. Now add 2 to 3 cardamom pods to the boiling water. Let it boil for 10 minutes and strain it. Sip your way to a healthy life.

8. Ayurvedic varnya tea – for good skin

This tea is very helpful for purifying blood and also dissolves excess fat from the tissue. To prepare this Varnya tea (made with varnya herbs ), all you need to do is, take a pan and 2 cups of water, add cumin seeds, fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds in equal quantities (can add 2 teaspoons for 2 cups of water), 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder, few pepper corns, half an inch of cinnamon stick and 2 star anise. Boil for 10 minutes and strain it. Serve hot and add sweeteners as per your choice.

9. Ayurvedic tea for mental health – Effective stress-buster and calms your body & mind

To prepare this tea, take a pan and add 2 cups of water, add fennel seeds, coriander seeds, half an inch of licorice root, few mint leaves, 3 lime flower petals (thoroughly washed and dried). Boil it for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain it and add sweeteners as per taste.

10. Laxative tea – prevents constipation

All you need to do is, add 2 teaspoons of ground senna leaves and 2 teaspoons of coriander seeds to a kettle of boiling water. Strain it and add 1 teaspoon of honey. Have this tea before going to bed for relieved stomach.
