If you regularly read my blogs or are following me on Instagram for a longer time, you probably already know how obsessed I am with using natural fresh ingredients for skin and hair. I absolutely love using natural remedies personally and I have tried almost everything from the kitchen pantry I can find research papers on for my skin and hair. Here I have compiled my favorite food masks for skin and hair –

10 FOOD MASKS FOR SKIN AND HAIR:

Avocado

Avocado has amazing moisturizing a softening properties and it works great for skin and hair both. It has essential fatty acids that deeply nourish and moisturize your hair and skin. All you can do is blend fresh avocado pulp with some milk or honey if you like and apply it evenly on your hair and skin. Massage your skin with this and wash it off after one hour.

Rice

Fermented rice or even plain rice is great for skin and hair and there are a lot of research studies on the same. You can either make fermented rice water as described HERE and use it for your skin and hair. Alternatively, you can also use rice flour and mix it with milk or water to make a paste and use it as a mask for skin and hair.

Mayonnaise

Non-veg mayonnaise is made up of egg and vinegar and both these ingredients together make this product great for skin and hair. It has moisturizing and nourishing properties and moisturizes your hair and also dry skin. Apply a thick layer on your skin and also on your hair and scalp and wash off your face mask after 30 minutes and hair mask after one hour.

Turmeric

Turmeric is quite known for its brightening, anti microbial and healing properties. It is great for dandruff and scalp acne and also for all your skin problems. Mix wild turmeric with some rose water and use it as a face mask and scalp mask for 20 minutes. Rinse the mask off from your face and use a shampoo for your hair.

Honey

Honey is a natural humectant and is quite hydrating. It softens and hydrates your skin and hair both and also has brightening and healing effects. You can dilute honey with some rose water and use it on your face and hair. Let it sit for one hour before you hop into the shower.

Mint

Mint leaves have anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and skin and scalp clearing properties. You can use fresh mint paste as a face and scalp mask to get rid of acne, dandruff, scalp acne and also great for oily skin and scalp.

Yogurt

Yogurt is rich in lactic acid and lactic acid producing bacteria that helps balance scalp and skin PH. It also has nourishing and moisturizing properties. You can apply yogurt directly on your face as a face mask and on your scalp and hair as a hair mask. Feel free to add in some honey or peppermint essential oil if you want.

Banana

Banana has moisturizing properties and also rich in potassium that keeps your hair, scalp and skin healthy. Mash a banana and add in some honey or milk until you get a spreadable paste. Apply it evenly on your facial skin, body and your hair and scalp. Wash it off after one hour.

Milk

I love using milk for my skin and hair both and it not only helps moisturize my skin and hair but also makes my hair super manageable and sleek. Milk also helps keep my skin clear and even out skin tone. Apply cold milk with a cotton ball on your facial skin and use it as an overnight face mask. You can spray milk on your scalp and hair use it as a hair mask and use a shampoo after one hour.

Coconut

Coconut oil, desiccated coconut and coconut milk are great for your skin and hair. You can use coconut oil directly as a hair mask and face mask. Designated coconut can be mixed with some coconut oil to make a body, face and scalp scrub. Coconut milk can be used as a body and face mask and also has a hair mask. Do note that if you have sensitive skin that gets clogged easily, stay away from coconut oil.

  • Patch test before using any new ingredient used in these food masks or product in your routine to make sure you are not allergic to any of it.
  • Expect no quick results, remedies and products take dedicated routine to show any effect.
